[ARCHIVED] Copiague Student Named Semifinalist in Regeneron Science Talent Search

Kemmora Simmons

The Town Board recently extended sincere congratulations to Kemmora Simmons, a distinguished member of the Town of Babylon community, for her outstanding achievement as a semifinalist in the 2024 Regeneron Science Talent Search.

As a senior at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School and the valedictorian of the 2024 graduating class, Kemmora has exemplified remarkable dedication and ingenuity in her research endeavors. Her study, titled "Effect of the Endocrine-Disrupting Chemical Soy on the Psychological Stress Levels of Neonatal Drosophila Melanogaster," underscores her commitment to scientific inquiry and exploration.

In a record-breaking year for the Regeneron Science Talent Search, scholars were chosen from a pool of 2,162 entrants spanning 712 high schools across 46 states, Puerto Rico, and 10 other countries. This marked the highest number of entrants since 1969, reflecting a notable increase of over 200 from the previous year.

Kemmora's distinction as the first student from the Town of Babylon to attain this honor is a testament to her exceptional talent. We commend her on this significant accomplishment and wish her continued success in her future endeavors.KemmoraSimmons copy
